Resumen
This prospective observational study explores the dynamic relationship between nutritional intake, body composition and physical performance among Antioquia team judo athletes throughout the stages of the ATR macrocycle a type of periodization which has its name due to the three phases it has (Accumulation, Transition and Realisation). Employing advanced technologies such as Dual Energy X- Ray Absorptiometry (DXA) and Kerr's 5-component formula, along with validated physical performance tests, the research identifies significant correlations during the Accumulation, Transformation and Accomplishment stages. Positive associations are observed between caloric intake and muscle mass. It highlights body weight manipulation strategies and the delicate balance needed to avoid adverse effects on bone health. Negative correlations between protein intake and the Special Judo Fitness Test (SJFT) index highlight factors influencing judo-specific performance. The study supports the current literature in combat sports on controlled weight loss in the Realization phase does not lead to decreased performance. It suggests the need for personalized approaches, considering individual variability in nutritional habits, body composition, and performance. Limitations include low participant retention and the descriptive nature of the study, cautiously considering the results avoiding conclusions about causal relationships and extrapolation to the general population of judo athletes. The research aims to provide valuable insights into the complex interaction of nutrition, body composition and performance in judo, supported by context-appropriate approaches to sport planning.Impacto
