Abstract

Background/Objectives: In this study, the objective is to identify, through a bioinformatics analysis of their genomes, the type of CRISPR-Cas system and its component elements in the 69 reference Leptospira species Methods: Three online bioinformatic tools were used for this: CRISPRcasFinder, RAST, and PHASTEST. Results: The results show that 20 Leptospira species contain phage sequences, primarily within clades P1 and P2. Most of the identified CRISPR-Cas systems belong to Class I, mainly subtype I-E. Conclusions: This study concludes that due to the presence of cas genes, spacers, and their diversity support the active functionality of the CRISPR-Cas system in at least 20 Leptospira species.
